Right in the middle of Portland are wooded hillsides. They’re too steep to build on, so have been turned into nature parks with trails that are open to the public.

Gorgeous! Less than a mile from the city center, a forest to wander and explore.

Not quite primeval, this forest has certainly been logged. But who cares about that? We’re in Mother Nature’s world here and she’s most definitely in charge.

The paths are laid out, with markers here and there.

I saw a few. They didn’t seem to be in order or make sense. Most were slowly being reclaimed by the forest.

Or how about this! In a clearing, where the path crossed a road, someone practicing with her new silk flags. Magic.

I mean,… Look at this. So Beautiful.

If you’re feeling stressed and want a dose of fresh air or be reminded of what’s important and who’s responsible for it, remember who’s behind it all. It’s our mother, Mother Nature.

It’s a good day to remind us. Happy Day to our Mother.
Thanks for helping us appreciate Mother Nature today and every day!
Thanks Judy! Mother Nature, today and every day, yes, a good reminder of who’s really in charge.
Thanks for helping us appreciate Mother Nature today and every day!
We were first out on the sand this morning, walking a couple of miles north and then hurrying home because by then other people were venturing out. At Hug Point we were both delighted to see the black oystercatcher pair. I had not meant to approach close, but was paying more attention to the sea than to where I was going. I stopped as soon as I saw them about 30 feet away.
The black oystercatcher lay down on the sand when she realized I’d noticed her. So did her mate. I stood perfectly still, zooming my camera for photos, but not approaching closer. She was feigning incapacitation as a strategy for distracting me from her baby or babies in her nest high above the sand. It is a familiar behavior that we have witnessed many times over the years. After a few minutes, they decided I was harmless and both birds went back to feeding.
Thanks Jan, for the wonderful story! Perfect for Mother’s Day.
