A pandemic, crazy intense politics and now, a horrific riot in Washington DC. It has not been an easy time. My nerves are shot, how about yours?
Would you like a short reprieve to think about something else?
For the last few months, we’ve been working on a 90 second video focusing on my work. Finding music, the pictures I wanted to show and the general feeling that I wanted to convey, it’s been a wonderful way to put my mind onto something else.
It’s finished now and just yesterday we posted it. It’s on my website and is ready for viewing. Please check it out! You can find it on the first page of my website, scroll down to this picture and click.

And that’s not all. Ever since Covid has disrupted our lives and sent us all to the internet for our social interactions, Sheryl Belson, from the American Sewing Guild’s Plano Chapter, has been interviewing sewing enthusiasts for her online Fireside Chats.
I was delighted when Sheryl asked if I would want to be interviewed and included in one of her Fireside Chats. Yes!
The half hour interview was posted yesterday, please check it out!

A huge Thank You to everyone who helped to put together my video and make it happen! And to Sheryl! And especially to you, who reads my blog, Thank You! Thank You!
Love the close-ups – they allow us to see the incredible detail of your work. I have a question – the black/white outfit with the red appliqué squares – is each hand-stitched in place? raw-edge? Same with the golden skirt? which precedes it? Both are lovely.
Thank You Judith! All the red squares on the long black and white coat are hand stitched on. No raw edges. Same with the gold piece shown just before.
What a fun interview, and such a pleasure to hear the RBG story told by you, and to see all those wonderful pieces—something about being able to see the jackets move in your hands! Your appreciation for how Japan stabilized the shape of the kimono for centuries, which left them free to focus on color, pattern, and texture in garments is particularly insightful. Thank you for that.
Having seen your work in person, I second the admiration for the meticulous finishing of your garments. It is art, truly, but also wonderfully crafted. You respect the materials as well as the tradition you carry on.
Wow Jan, thank you for your kind words! They are very much appreciated.
What a delight to watch this interview, reminisce about your encounter with RBG, and see the short film about your meticulous, gorgeous work. I will be forever grateful to you for making my dress for the final Obama White House Christmas gala.
Thank You Judith! What an honor it was that you wore one of my pieces to the Obama Christmas party. Such a wonderful event!
Ann, what a wonderful treat it was for me to spend time with you doing this interview! I will forever be grateful for our time together. And what a bonus for my daughter to hear me reflecting on our time together and how much it made me want to get one of your scarves and then surprise me with one as a gift! Each time I wear it I with think of both of you.
Thank You Sheryl! I agree, it was really fun to spend time with you and get to know you. And I loved being part of the surprise scarf gift from your daughter!
