I started this jacket months ago. Last May to be precise. And now, finally, it’s finished!

For years now, I had a picture torn from a magazine of a skirt with a gorgeous pattern. It looked like a colored pencil drawing with layers and layers of colored lines. So beautiful.
I’d been waiting not only for inspiration but also for time. With our covid hiatus, I had the opportunity to make a piece that I knew would take a while to finish.

It was last May that I first posted a story about this jacket.
A detail of the front.

I almost always have a hand work project going, either appliqué or beading. During the day I’m at my machine with an audio book or podcast, but at night, if I’m in front of the tv, I always have a needle in hand and a project in my lap.
Watching tv while sewing on a close and detailed project is a good practice because, as you know, you should periodically look up and refocus your eyes. Either look out the window, or at the other side of the room or, for me the easiest because I want to see what is happening, at the tv.
The back.

Now, many documentaries, mysteries and drama series later, it is done!
I’m onto another evening television project. Stay tuned.
Stunning! I can’t imagine the hours you put into this garment.
Thank You Judith! It definitely was many hours. Good thing I enjoy it!
Were all of the ribbons hand sewn to the surface? Gorgeous!!
Thank You Nancy! They are bias tubes [and not ribbons] and were indeed sewn on by hand to the base fabric. Check out the post about how I made the bias tubes here: https://annwilliamson.com/uncategorized/slow-work/
Ann, is it for you? So stunning and I love the peak into your creative process and work habits. Happy New Year, RAE
Happy New Year to you too Rae! The jacket is not for me. I’ll be adding it to my web-shop soon.
Absolutely a unique beauty!!
Thank You Gayle!
