Fabric scraps? Leftovers? I tend to save all the bits and pieces. They pile up in large plastic boxes and eventually find their way into one project or another, especially if they are the remains from the Randall Darwall scarf series that I’ve been working on.
I had a bag of 3 and 4 inch pieces of his amazing handwoven scarves that I absolutely could not bring myself to throw out. I pieced them together with a beautiful kimono silk and set them at the hem of this coat. That’s another one of his scarves at the lapel. It’s an abstracted, cubist, patchwork quilt, environmentally sound use of any and all scraps. No landfill for my Darwall fabrics, no matter their size!
I’ll be bringing this coat and my other Randall Darwall pieces as well as lots of jackets, separates and other new work to the ACC San Francisco Craft show next weekend. If you’re anywhere near the Bay area, stop by!
