I’ve been working on a new jacket for Janice. ‘Kanji’, a design inspired by the Japanese characters used for writing.
Step one, cut out little strips of fabric.
Next, sew them up into 5 by 6 inch blocks.
Lots of them, all different.
Make a few longer, for the jacket’s hem.
Lay them out.
It’s like a puzzle, only instead of knowing it’s finished because it looks like the picture on the box, it’s finished when it looks right.
Sew ’em up, pin them on the ironing board and steam them flat.
Ready! To be cut and sewn into a new jacket.
Very fun and playful “free” design! And yes, very calligraphic in feel!
