Portland, my home town, it has a great riverside walkway.
You can start here, next to the Hawthorne Bridge.
Turn right and walk north to the Steel Bridge, cross the river and then walk south, back towards the Hawthorne. It’s a loop.
Especially on nice days, people are out, biking, running, walking, roller blading, alone, with pals, family, friends.
The esplanade is part concrete pathway, part floating walkway.
The Steel Bridge, cross here to get to the other side.
Bonus!
The Steel Bridge’s pedestrian walkway is right next to the train tracks. If you’re lucky, the train will go by while you’re there.
On the other side, turn left and walk south along the Waterfront Bike Trail.
There’s more action on this side: fountains,
and more potential to run into friends.
Then all the way south back to the Hawthorne bridge.
We call it “Bridgetown” for a reason, there are 8. You can see two through the struts.
And back! From the Hawthorne looking back towards the city.
I love it! It’s the best inner city walk.
I absolutely love the bridge/river shots and post. Thank you for bringing a little Portland into my bridge- and river-less LA existence.
