I’ve been thinking about Joseph Albers and his series “Homage to the Square” because I’ve been working on a group of jackets, each appliqued with the same design but using different colors. Albers spent over 25 years on his series, studying how colors interacted, investigating how the very same hue can look blue or orange or project or recede depending on what color it is next to. I can see how he lost himself in this study. It’s so interesting how the slightest variation can completely change the outcome.
Three Joseph Albers paintings. Beautiful!
