New Applique Jacket

Remember these bias strips? I posted this picture a few weeks ago.

And I was studying this 1913 painting by Giacomo Balla, “The Speeding Automobile” and thinking about the movement he created by the use of repetitive diagonal and curving lines.

Using the inspiration of speed and movement for my design, I laid out the bias strips onto what will become the front of a jacket.

All held in place with lots and lots of pins.

To get it off the wall and ready for sewing, I unpinned the pins from the wall and re-pinned them into just the fabric.

But sewing with so many pins is not possible [they not only poke, they also fall out], so I basted the bias strips in place and removed the pins.

Now it’s sew-able, no pins to cause injuries. I’ll hand stitch everything in place. And add some beads too, for pizazz.

Speed, movement and pizazz. Yes!
