It’s here!

I’ve been in my studio, sewing, making new things, appliquéing, a little piecing, all that stuff. I have been on-task.

But, more has been happening. Lots going on past my front door. How about you, have you been paying attention to what’s going on out there???

Spring! Plants are growing like crazy, sending out new leaves, buds opening into spectacular flowers. The air smells fresh, the fragrance from blooms wafts by, people are on bikes or playing frisbee, they’re walking their dogs, kids are dancing down the street. It’s like a Disney movie, only it’s real.

Any concerns or worries you might have, take my advice: go outside. You’ll feel better. Guaranteed.

There’s a bit of a controversy around here about grape hyacinth, they can take over, as evidenced here in this vacant lot.

But come on! They’re beautiful!

The same goes for blue bells, turn your back and they’ve covered your parking strip.

Actually, all things considered, not that bad.

Even dandelions, scattered through this lawn.

Rocks instead of soil? How about colorful plastic ducks?

This tree is amazing. It was just planted a few years ago, so is not very old, but every year it puts on a more and more spectacular show.

Or this row of older cherry trees, going strong. Beautiful!

The grand finale.

My tree peonies.

I bought them from my friend’s neighbor. His garden was beautiful but easy, nothing fussy. He had an interesting system with tree peonies. After they bloomed he’d gather the seeds then casually scatter them with little fuss so that only the hardy ones would grow. The next season, he’d do the same thing, take the seeds from the ones that grew, scatter them and wait to see what would come up. Again, after the bloom he’d harvest the seeds from the batch that grew, scatter and see what came up. Instead of the showy multi petals that you might think of with tree peonies, his results were a sort of a primitive version, more like what was originally found deep in China.

So pretty.
