From the Archives: Wool Coats

grid coat

In the last few months I’ve been giving a few lectures about my work, which meant sorting through pictures of my earlier designs. It’s been fun, like visiting with old friends.
Before kimono silk, I was all about wool, wool jackets and coats. Coats are great because there is so much surface to work with. Like the one above, a grid of pieced wool, appliqued with brightly colored strips.

I’m still making coats, only now I’m using kimono silk.
Coats are easy. Add one over whatever you have on, a fancy dress or a tee shirt and jeans. You’re set!

I want each piece to flatter and enhance the body it adorns.”
