Recently, Kelly Ford, a local dress maker, passed away. As with many of us [ahem… who me?], her stash was overflowing. There was a lot. A group of her friends got together to put on a sale. The goal was to sell enough to help care for her cats and cover the moving and storage expenses.
But yow. There really was a lot. So much. It took weeks to pack it up and move it, then sort through it, measure, label then move it to the conference room that had been rented for the event.
I mean,… yow. Lots.
I snapped this picture just before the doors opened. It shows about half of the total amount. More tables and shelves were full to the brim. And notions and patterns and irons and, well, you name it.
Cottons and silks, wool, lots of corduroy and ‘fabrics of undetermined content.’ Lots and lots of beautiful stuff. This lady had taste. Plus, the prices were very good.
There was a line at the door, at 9am they opened and the rush began. In the beginning, as they came in we guessed about 100 were crammed into the room. It was amazing. These people knew a bargain when they saw it. They had arm loads that they could barely carry that they’d bring up to the check out table where I was working.
It was the best party ever! The energy was off the charts. So much fun!
Bonus! Besides a just plain good time, I also found the perfect match of a gorgeous, 4-ply silk crepe in an exact color match of a project I’m working on.
I’m on a green binge and it’s as though this fabric had been chosen just for me.
And supplies, Thread! I snapped this photo as a customer laid out her choices. 4 for a dollar.
On some of pieces we found price tags from other estate sales.
It’s musical fabric as a piece moves from one person’s stash to the next. Sometimes they’re sewn up, other times they’re on the table at the next sale.
The final result? After starting with many, many boxes, all filled to the brim, there were only three remaining. And a couple of small boxes of patterns and notions.
The sale was a success! There was plenty to help care for the kitties.
