Cranes for the New Year

January 8, 2017

A jacket pieced from beautiful kimono silks, highlighted with cranes silhouetted against gold clouds.
Symbols of good luck and eternal youth, cranes are the perfect theme for the beginning of 2017.

Can you see them?

Stunning – is the stripe texture in the sleeves and (maybe?) set into the front a second fabric that you collected to go with the cranes, or…..? I’m trying to imagine the process to get to this pretty thing!

The sleeve fabrics is another piece. There are a number of fabrics in this jacket, all chosen to go with the cranes. I started making pieced jackets similar to this one [they are never identical] in order to use up my scraps. These fabrics are too beautiful to throw out, so I keep the smaller pieces until I find a use for them.
