Craft2Wear 2016!

I’d set up my booth and was all ready for the 2016 Craft2Wear Show.
I looked up. Oh wow oh wow, the amazing, gorgeous, beautiful, Building Museum atrium space.

I looked down, the splashy bright red rug covered with diagonal X’s and flower designs.
We’re talking competition here….

But a straight on, focus on what’s in the booth, not above, not below:
my clothes and scarves.
In place and ready for the show.

And what a show! Thank you Smithsonian Women’s Committee!
You put together a fabulous event.
I had a wonderful time. Saw so many people, new friends and old. The days whizzed by.
And all for such a worthy cause, the Smithsonian! I was proud to be part of it.

My last day, a few hours before my flight, I walked over to the brand new African American Museum.
I knew that there were no reserved tickets available until next January.
But, maybe it would work out, I was told that there were some for the same day, “just come down early and stand in line.”

Yow, the line! It wrapped around the building, all the way down one side, around the corner and down the other.
The people at the half way point told me they’d been there about an hour.

Not enough time for me to stand in line and make my flight, but I could at least walk around and look at the beautiful exterior.
An homage to African American iron workers, the lace like panels cover the building. Amazing.

Once around I looked across the street, over to the Washington Monument.

I’m a sucker for monuments. I love them! I couldn’t resist.
It was my first time this close to the giant obelisk. It’s huge!
The wind was blowing, the flags stood out straight from the poles. So cool!

The perfect ending to a fabulous trip to Washington DC.
