I’ve noticed that my biggest change during this last year, is that I’ve slowed down. Way down. I’m still in my studio, sewing and working, happily enjoying myself, but I’ve been moving at half speed. Slowing down, taking my time, thinking more, looking, changing things around, adding more, taking some parts out and adding something different. Not a bad reminder that this is not a race, it’s a journey.
I started this piece back in December. It was all about the top layer, a sheer kimono silk over a brocade. Long skinny bias tubes flowing down to the hem.

Sewing and beading all those strips in place took a while. Plus other projects interrupted and took my attention away. Eventually though, it was finished.

It sat on my ‘to-finish’ pile for a while until I was ready to sew it together.
But when I laid the appliqued piece on top of the under fabric, it just wasn’t working. The under layer needed its own punch, its own something. Something like more appliqués.

No problem, I have time, I can go back and keep adjusting and adding.
In this little corner of the universe, time is what I have plenty of.

Stay tuned.
You’re right — just what it needed. I think your use of slow time will yield lasting beautiful results — I’m using mine to make sourdough brownies, pistachio cake, and mint meringue cookies. Might be time to reassess my priorities.
Jeannette! Please do not reassess! The world needs sourdough brownies, pistachio cake and mint meringue cookies!
You are helping me become more patient in my work for perfection.
Thank you very much.
You are so very welcome Marion!
There’s a thin line between patience and stubbornness, I seem to go back and forth between the two.
I have followed your blog for a long time with great respect for your creations and have used many of your techniques as inspiration for – only personal – creations. Today, your words have touched me on the “journey”, again, thank you for sharing your thoughts and artistry.
Thank You S!I appreciate your kind words.
I am so happy to share what I know, after all, I didn’t invent any of it. Someone else passed it on to me and I am happy to pass it on to you.
