This is where it all started. I’d been sewing and selling my clothes in Portland, but before this dress, it was a small scale, fun kind of an endeavor.

Then, in the summer of ’83, I made this pieced and appliqued linen dress. And had a photographer take these pictures.
I brought it to the country’s premier art to wear gallery, Julie: Artisans’ Gallery in New York City. I walked in, showed it to Julie, and, she took it!
And it sold!
And, she asked for more work! Which I dutifully made and sent.
I was off.
