Christmas Party at the White House!

At the White House, under the portrait of George Washington and standing right next to our First Lady, Michelle Obama, it’s Judy Fardig, volunteer extraordinaire and chapter leader of Organizing for America. She’s wearing the dress I made just for this occasion. Next to Michelle is Mary Sorteberg, wife of Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkely. At […]

Some Good Stuff

Ava, my neighbor’s serious little dog, came to visit for an afternoon. She knows but isn’t saying. A giant box of beautiful kimono silks arrived. Gorgeous stuff! I can’t wait to get into these. My big project! Here, in mid process, it’s all but complete now. For the White House Christmas party [Yes!]. Too much […]

Pine and Dots

A few jackets that were photographed but didn’t make it to the blog. Now they’ve moved on to new homes, so it’s one last look. A jacket sewn from a gorgeous kimono silk. Covered with an oh so cool pine needle and branch design, accented with little red dots. I appliqued skinny bias strips to […]

A Long Trench Coat

I love how these things work out. One year ago, I had brought this just finished, long trench coat to the 2015 Craft2Wear show. First hours of the show, someone fell in love with it. But, we’ve all been there, when the card won’t go through? Neither of us was concerned. She would call later […]

New for Craft2Wear ’16

New jackets for the upcoming Craft2Wear show. It’s only a few days away! This Friday and Saturday, October 7 and 8. The jacket below, just finished, from an amazing kimono silk, with flying ribbons and fans, pieced with an oh so cool pine tree pattern. And this one, a black and red with shibori flowers […]

Kimono Coat for Craft2Wear

A new coat design, loose and oversized. Except it hangs close to the body, so with arms down, it has a narrow silhouette. It’s deceptively full. Room for dancing! This close up shows my appliquéd strips on the most amazing kimono silk. Grace looking fabulous in this sideways view. I’m gearing up for the Smithsonian […]

Pieced Vest

It’s the last of my orders from the San Francisco ACC show. And it’s a fun one! A pieced vest, from beautiful kimono silks. After this is finished, I’ll start new work for the Craft2Wear show in Washington DC. From one fun project to the next! I cannot even come close to complaining about anything.

Appliquéd Coat

A new coat, loose and oversized. I’m using an amazing kimono silk that is perfect for a layer of my skinny appliquéd strips. I can’t wait to see this one finished!

New Skirt

A new skirt! Pieced silk strips cut into triangle shaped panels and joined together. I thought I was finished. Nope. It needed, had to have, could not possibly go without, appliquéd squares. So, OK, there is no arguing with a skirt that knows what it needs. New skirt, pieced from Japanese kimono silks, with added […]

Finish, Turn, Begin

I love my work. I love to sit in my studio, radio on, surrounded by gorgeous silks, lost in my world, sewing pretty things. It is the very best. And I love to go to the shows and meet the people who come and look and ask questions. And when they find a piece that […]
