Spring and Inspiration

We have it! It is here and it is so beautiful. Spring! It’s all about new beginnings, when anything is possible and all options are open. I’ve been thinking about new work, about color, shape and patterns. It feels like I could do anything. So many ideas. I look in any direction and am inspired. [...]

I love Meisen!

Meisen silk trench coats. I love these silks! You remember how they make ‘meisen’, that amazing Japanese silk? First they weave the fabric, then they print the design. Then, unweave [yes, UNWEAVE] and then REWEAVE. The reweaving is always slightly off so instead of a design with sharp clean edges, they are fuzzy. Meisen kimonos [...]

Kimono Silk Jackets

One last look, a few snap shots of  jackets I sent off at the ACC Baltimore craft show. “Leaf”, sewn from two different kimono silks. I sewed on the little coral beads as though they were veins in the leaves. The natural coral looks like tiny irregular sticks. Pink and grey, I love that color [...]

Fantastic Show! Baltimore 2012

Baltimore 2012, what a fantastic show! I had a wonderful time, visited with old friends, made some new and sent many of my jackets, coats and separates out into the world. A good thing!   I shot these pictures before the show started, everything is in place and ready to go. Like the table before [...]

End of Winter

It’s still wet and drizzly here in Portland, but there are signs that winter is at its end. Tulips emerging. Sprouting daphne buds. And my favorites, peonies, with just their tips showing. Another sign that winter is at its end? The ACC Baltimore Craft Show, it’s always on the last weekend of February. What? You won’t [...]

ACC Baltimore Craft Show 2012!

I’m deep into preparations for the ACC Baltimore Show. Fabrics are flying, my sewing machine is humming, the iron is on and hot. Some pieces are completely finished and ready to go. A pink and black Bold jacket, pieced from some amazing kimono silks. Behind is a black and white Swing. And some pieces are [...]

Happy New Year 2012!

Christmas came early to my house! Junko stopped by a week ago and brought me an enormous pile of beautiful kimonos. Look at them all! [sorry about the fuzzy picture, instead of paying attention to focusing, I was thinking about all those amazing silks,...] Junko and her wonderful friends, Eimi and Mari, gave me these [...]

Last Look

Can you believe it? In two weeks we’ll be at the end of the year! One last look at some of my jackets that made their way out into the world in 2011: A navy “Rugby”, my tribute to those bold stripes found on some T-shirts. WIth beads added in for pizazz. “Charcoal Jet”, a reverse of [...]

Philadelphia, here I come!

New jackets for Philadelphia, sewn and ready for their final pressing. Then into my bags and onto the plane. Their final destination? The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s 35th annual craft show. Stop by! Say hi! And see what I’ve been up to.

A blouse? Or a soft jacket?

I call them ‘Hitoe’ which means an unlined jacket. Like a blouse, but with just a bit of structure. Both sewn from gorgeous kimonos silks: one, a landscape combined with a beautiful woven white and the other with waving lines and a collar from an amazing bold shibori. For the PMA craft show, November 10 [...]
